Expert Explorers: On Tour With Daisy

May 30, 2014

This week, the team at Pegasus Finance were lucky enough to interview Serena and Nik, the travel experts responsible for the wonderful On Tour With Daisy blog. This pair are seasoned motorhoming veterans, blogging about their adventures with Daisy, their 5 berth companion. We’ve tapped into Nik and Serena’s wealth of experience to find their top tips and travel advice, just for you guys. Let’s get down to it.

Pegasus Motorhome Finance Feature: On Tour With Daisy

Tell us a little about ‘Daisy’ – why did you decide to name her that?

Daisy is a Pilote R860S A-class motorhome. She’s 24 feet long and can sleep 5. There’s a large drop down double bed above the cab, the sofa turns into a single and at the back is a small dinning room, which can be made into another double bed. She has a nice sized separate bathroom with shower and came fitted with a microwave and two-ring hob. Since owning her, we have fitted an oven and solar panels so we aren’t reliant on hook-ups. We named her Daisy because a previous owner had painted her wheels yellow with white rings in the middle and it reminded us of daisies.

What do you like so much about travelling in a motorhome?

The great thing about going away in a motorhome is that you are free to go wherever you please. We decide where to go by looking at the weather and choosing the place with the sunshine. All areas of the country have fantastic places to visit – so as long as the sun is out, we go there. Having a motorhome is like being a tortoise; you carry your home with you. We make our plans on a daily basis and, as we aren’t tied to a hotel, we can just up and leave when we’ve seen enough of one place, or the weather is better somewhere else, making every day an adventure.

Could you tell us about some of your travel essentials?

Our travel essentials are walking boots – we do a lot of walking, as you see so much more of a place on foot. Books – we’re on holiday so we don’t have a TV, instead we prefer to read or play board games with our girls when they are with us. The site directories for the Caravan Club and the Camping and Caravanning Club, as we book our sites on a daily basis when we know where we will be. We prefer the small CL and CS sites. Finally, and most importantly, are the cameras. Nik would not enjoy his holiday if he didn’t have these.

He would hate to have a perfect shot of something and not be able to capture it. Anything else we forget can be replaced along the way.

Nik, as a photographer, what has been your favourite place to shoot while motorhoming?

The places Nik likes to photograph are the places we haven’t been to before.

It’s the thrill of going somewhere new full of as yet unknown picture opportunities. That’s what makes his job so great. Every county has fantastic photographic opportunities and wonderful places – but if we haven’t been there before, we never know what we’ll find.
